John Banda is a development finance expert with experience in Micro Small and Medium Enterprise lending spanning over 30 years.

About

John has been involved in both retail and wholesale microfinance locally and regionally. John started as a Business Analyst at SEDCO in 1988 before becoming the Country Manager of ECLOF Zimbabwe in 1996. 

 He then joined Oikocredit, a Dutch Microfinance Wholesale Institution and was based in its regional office in Pretoria SA. He re-joined ECLOF International in 2012 as the Africa Regional Support Consultant covering Zambia, Kenya, Uganda Tanzania and Ghana. In June 2016, John joined the Zimbabwe Microfinance Fund, a wholesale microfinance entity as Operations Manager. During his time there, he spearheaded the diversification of the Fund’s investment portfolio into both debt and equity investments.


John is the Managing Director and co-founder of Hunters Learning Institute P/L. He holds a BSc Hons. Economics degree and an MBA both from the University of Zimbabwe. John has taught part-time on the HIT Microfinance Diploma and the NUST/ZAMFI Microfinance Certificate Programmes.  


Beyond corporate consulting, Memory is also the host of the Inspire Children Talk Show and is deeply involved in empowering youths, adolescents, and families through mentorship, coaching, advocacy, and community-based development initiatives. As a thought leader making impact across business and social sectors, she is widely respected for championing ethical leadership, child protection, and purpose-driven institutional development bringing a values-based perspective that strengthens both organisational performance and societal outcomes.
